Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey

School of Public Health

Rutgers School of Public Health is seeking applications for two positions: a senior level (Associate or Full) Professor (tenure-track or tenured), and a junior level faculty member. Qualified candidates should have a doctoral degree in public health, economics, health services research, demography, sociology, psychology, or an adjacent field. We are seeking creative, collaborative faculty members who are motivated to understand and improve public health through scholarship, service, and policy development; will contribute actively to the teaching mission; and will mentor MPH and doctoral students.

The ideal candidates will enhance, complement, and deepen our current department strengths, including but not limited to: health economics, health services, and/or health policy with particular emphasis on mental health and/or substance use (e.g., alcohol, opioids, tobacco). Candidates interested in addressing health inequities, and those who can collaborate with faculty members in our other concentrations – Population Mental Health, Social and Behavioral Health Sciences, and Population Aging – will be prioritized. Teaching assignments will include the MPH core course in Health Systems and Policy.

Candidates for the junior position will have completed doctoral training (Ph.D., ScD, or DrPH), and should have demonstrated potential to lead an independent program of research. Additional requirements for the senior position include a demonstrated ability to lead a program of relevant research, a strong record of scholarly achievement, sustained extramural research funding as Principal Investigator, experience in teaching and mentoring a new generation of public health researchers, evidence of community engagement, and a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and anti-racism.

This faculty member will be primarily affiliated with the Health Systems and Policy concentration in the department of Health Behavior, Society and Policy. Applicants will find a wide range of collaborative experts within the School (http://sph.rutgers.edu) and major centers that are also part of Rutgers Health (https://rutgershealth.org/), including the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research (https://ifh.rutgers.edu/) and the Institute for Nicotine and Tobacco Studies (https://ints.rutgers.edu/)

An excellent start-up package is available.

For both positions, the faculty member shall:

- Lead a rigorous, externally funded research program in health economics, health services research, health policy or an adjacent field

- Engage in scholarly activity including publications and presentations of research results at national and international meetings

- Contribute actively to the school’s teaching and service missions

- Understand and adhere to Rutgers Health compliance standards as they appear in RBHS (legacy UMDNJ) Corporate Compliance Policy and Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.

Successful applicants will have:

- A strong record of publications in health economics, health services research, health policy or an adjacent field

- Potential for (junior level), or a sustained record of (senior level), major extramural research funding as Principal Investigator

- Experience teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level

- Experience mentoring graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and early career faculty (senior level)

- Evidence of professional community service

- Excellent written and oral communication skills

- Evidence of a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and antiracism

The mission of the Rutgers School of Public Health is to advance health and well-being and prevent disease locally, nationally, and globally by preparing students as public health leaders, scholars, and practitioners; conducting public health research and scholarship; engaging collaboratively with communities; and advocating for policies, programs, and services with a focus on equity and social justice.

The CEPH-accredited Rutgers School of Public Health offers multiple master and doctoral degrees, dual-degree, certificate, and articulated BA/BS-MPH degree programs across 4 departments. Applicants will find a wide range of collaborative experts within the School (http://sph.rutgers.edu) and Rutgers Health (https://rutgershealth.org/)

Review of submissions will begin immediately, therefore prospective candidates are encouraged to apply early.
