The 70th European Meeting of the Econometric Society (ESEM) will take place in Lisbon, Portugal, August 21-25, 2017. The Meeting is hosted by ISCTE - IUL and the University of Lisbon and will run in parallel with the 32nd Annual Congress of the European Economic Association (EEA). Participants will be able to attend all sessions of both events. The program chairs are Kfir Eliaz (Tel Aviv University and University of Michigan) and Imran Rasul (University College London and Institute for Fiscal Studies). The members of the local organizing committee from ISEG-UTL and the University of Lisbon are Mário Centeno, Vitor Escária, Alexandra Ferreira Lopes, Francisco Lima, and Luís Martins.
The Presidential Address will be given by Drew Fudenberg (Massachusetts Institute of Technology). The Fisher Schultz Lecture will be given by Janet Currie (Princeton University). The Laffont Lecture will be given by Patrick Kehoe (University of Minnesota and Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis). The 2017 European meeting also welcomes the Hotelling Lecture in Economic Theory, one of the three new Econometric Society Lecture Series, which will be given by Tomasz Strzalecki (Harvard University).

Advances in Econometrics: Susanne M. Schennach (Brown) and Matias D. Cattaneo (Michigan)
Advances in Economic History: Rick Hornbeck (Chicago Booth) and Ran Abramitzky (Stanford)
Advances in Economic Theory: Yuliy Sannikov (Princeton) and Juuso Toikka (MIT)
Advances in Macroeconomics: Lucrezia Reichlin (LBS) and TBC
Bounded Rationality: Rani Spiegler (UCL, Tel Aviv) and Geoffroy de Clippel (Brown)
The Measurement of Preferences: Armin Falk (Bonn) and Charlie Sprenger (UCSD)
Two prizes will be awarded for the best papers in applied economics (broadly taken to include applied theory, empirical economics, experimental economics, and computational economics) presented by young researchers within ten years of their PhD, i.e. with PhD awarded not earlier than January 1, 2007. When submitting papers on Conference Maker, presenters who want to be considered for a prize will have to click a box to indicate their interest and to certify that they are eligible.

Each author may submit only one paper to the ESEM and only one paper to the EEA Congress. The same paper cannot be submitted to both ESEM and the EEA Congress. At least one co-author must be a member of the association to which the paper is being submitted, or join that association at the time of submission. Membership will be authenticated with your Society username and password.
WinE Retreat (Women in Economics Mentoring and Networking)
The WinE Committee is pleased to announce the fifth retreat will be held in connection with EEA-ESEM Lisbon 2017. The Retreat is open to early career female economists with positions (post-doctoral fellows, lecturers, researchers and assistant professors) at academic and research institutions and who obtained their PhDs in 2012-2017 (applicants who expect to obtain their PhD at a later date but who have already secured a position for the next academic year at a different institution from their PhD granting one, will also be considered).
The attendees will participate in a series of innovative discussions organized as panels and as smaller groups run by senior mentors. The discussions will cover topics such as publishing, writing successful grant applications, networking and career planning, with attention paid to the unique challenges that women may face at different stages of their careers. A number of attendees will also take part in small group sessions, which will focus on participants’ research papers and provide an opportunity for detailed comment and feed-back from senior mentors in their field. There will also be many opportunities for the attendees to socialize with each other and their mentors during this event.
